{"id":1434,"date":"2012-04-10T09:29:41","date_gmt":"2012-04-10T07:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ofcourseimright.com\/?p=1434"},"modified":"2012-04-10T09:29:41","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T07:29:41","slug":"yeah-nj-governor-christie-screwed-you-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofcourseimright.com\/?p=1434","title":{"rendered":"Yeah, NJ: Governor Christie screwed you (again)"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Governor Christie of New Jersey\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/1\/1a\/2.9.11ChrisChristieTownHallByLuigiNovi9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"310\" height=\"232\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey (courtesy: Luigi Novi)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Back in 2010, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ofcourseimright.com\/?p=1120\">I wrote<\/a> about how foolish and shortsighted <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chris_Christie\">Governor Chris Christie<\/a> was being when he cancelled a new tunnel project for trains between New York City and New Jersey on practically the same day that the Swiss broke through a new mountain tunnel on either side.\u00a0 The contrast was nothing short of sad, from an American perspective.<\/p>\n<p>But now it turns out that Christie was being very loose with the facts, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/04\/10\/nyregion\/report-disputes-christies-reason-for-halting-tunnel-project-in-2010.html\">according to the\u00a0 New York Times<\/a>.\u00a0 It says that in a forthcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gao.gov\/\">GAO<\/a> report, the governor misrepresented both the total cost for the tunnel, and New Jersey&#8217;s share of it.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a shame.\u00a0 Anyone who commutes by train into New York knows that it doesn&#8217;t take much for trains to run late.\u00a0 That gets more people into cars, the long term results being more pollution, more asthma, and more traffic for New Jersey and New York.\u00a0 Good going, Governor Christie!\u00a0 Thanks for making the lives of people in New Jersey more miserable.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure that&#8217;s why you&#8217;re there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New York Times reports that a forthcoming GAO report shows the government distorted the facts, made misstatements, and said whatever he needed to say to cancel a tunnel project that would make the lives of hundreds of thousands of people better.
