{"id":48,"date":"2008-07-14T19:59:56","date_gmt":"2008-07-14T17:59:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ofcourseimright.com\/?p=48"},"modified":"2008-07-14T19:59:56","modified_gmt":"2008-07-14T17:59:56","slug":"viva-la-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ofcourseimright.com\/?p=48","title":{"rendered":"Viva La France!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-49\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" title=\"France\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ofcourseimright.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/france.jpg\" alt=\"France\" width=\"176\" height=\"181\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Happy Bastille Day!<\/p>\n<p>It was on this day in 1789 that The Bastille itself was stormed, it having become a symbol of oppression where many folks lost their heads.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s take a moment to recount just a few things the French have brought the world (and for now we&#8217;ll exclude french fries, french toast, and frenching).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>French Wine\u2014\u00a0 France offers a wide variety of reds and whites, including some interesting sparkling reds.\u00a0 Chateua Nuef de Pape, Cotes du Rhone, and the big ones like Pomerol are something they&#8217;ve given me.<\/li>\n<li>Bread\u2014\u00a0 Nobody does a better croissant than France.\u00a0 Napoleon even erected a fort in the Alps to keep the Italians from stealing all the good bread.\u00a0 Italians need to learn how to make bread like the french.<\/li>\n<li>The Statue of Liberty\u2014 a remarkable lady whose purpose seems forgotten in this unkind time.<\/li>\n<li>The United States of America\u2014 Without Lafayette there would have been no U.S.A.<\/li>\n<li>The Citroen\u2014 without this peace of junk, there is no way the big three could have lasted as long as they have.<\/li>\n<li>The Crepe\u2014 need I say more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So Happy Birthday, France!\u00a0 Salut!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Bastille Day!
