No Such thing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43 alignright\" title=\"iPhone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ofcourseimright.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/prod-phone.jpg\" alt=\"iPhone\" width=\"74\" height=\"143\" \/>Today&#8217;s CNN <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2009\/POLITICS\/01\/22\/obama.blackberry\/index.html?iref=topnews\">reports<\/a> that President Barack Obama will supposedly get a secure smartphone that would be similar to his Blackberry.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gdc4s.com\/content\/detail.cfm?item=32640fd9-0213-4330-a742-55106fbaff32\">Sectera Edge<\/a>, made by General Dynamics, has already received a seal of approval from the National Security Agency.\u00a0 There is only one problem: either it&#8217;s not <em><strong>that<\/strong><\/em> smart or it&#8217;s not <em><strong>that<\/strong><\/em> secure.\u00a0 You can have either one, but you can&#8217;t have both.\u00a0 Smartphones are those phones that can provide some form of general purpose computing function.\u00a0 It is that function that is subject to abuse.\u00a0 While it is possible to develop and provide a general purpose computing function that is perhaps even provably secure, it will also be provably useless.<\/p>\n<p>Another problem with the Sectera Edge is that it lacks the ecosystem that Mr. Obama may be used to with the Blackberry, or others might be used to with the iPhone.\u00a0 I imagine that very few applications have actually been written outside of GD.\u00a0 Looking at the iPhone, only a fraction of the apps for the iPhone are developed by Apple.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s CNN reports that President Barack Obama will supposedly get a secure smartphone that would be similar to his Blackberry.\u00a0 The Sectera Edge, made by General Dynamics, has already received a seal of approval from the National Security Agency.\u00a0 There is only one problem: either it&#8217;s not that smart or it&#8217;s not that secure.\u00a0 You &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/ofcourseimright.com\/?p=620\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading<span class=\"screen-reader-text\"> &#8220;Secure SmartPhone?
